Ball Hockey on Major Sports Network?
To all our CBHA Councils, Provincial Presidents, National Coaches and staff.
Please read the following announcement and distribute to our members across Canada . This ground breaking Sports TV station that is powered by the Canadian Olympic Committee and partners needs our support. Please read details below:
Ball Hockey on Major Sports Network?
Imagine seeing yourself playing in a televised game throughout Canada . Thinking about people finally seeing our sports compelling skill, athleticism, and the drive and will to be a effective player in a big game. Well, that wish could be right around the corner with a new groundbreaking Amateur Sport Network being proposed to the CRTC. The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), working with a group of partners has applied to the CRTC for two television licenses dedicated to high performance Canadian amateur sport. The applications are for an English language license and a French language license. The networks being called (CASN) Canadian Amateur Sport Network, and Reseau du sport amateur canadien (RSAC). These stations will be available to all Canadian households. Seven days a week, 24 hours a day!!
Both, CBHA President DiGironimo and I have been in discussion with these great Canadian sports practitioners who are driving the mandate for this much needed network for the good of all athletes of today and tomorrow in all sports. I think our National, Regional and International events for Women, Men, and minor players from all our member provinces, along with our 5 National teams would be right in line with the mandate of this new network. And they know it.
This station's mission is to only broadcast amateur sports exclusively. With another goal being to generate substantial funds that will aid the amateur sport community. You will find the CBHA and ball hockey identified on their website.
They need our help!!
The Canadian Amateur Sport Network (CASN) & (RSAC), and COC bid need our support. These CRTC hearing will be taking place in the near future. CBC has applied for a similar station which does not have the same pure amateur mandate as the CASN/RSAC. This would not be in amateur sports best interest.
We are asking all CBHA members to go to the CASN website and voice our support for this great new Canadian Sports TV station. Please go to the CASN/RSAC website to see details. And more importantly to voice your support for this initiative. Both Dom and I will keep you in the loop for developments. But, in the interim the CBHA and our vast membership must get behind this bid. So people can see the efforts of you and our players in our major events. Please take a moment to do this for our members, our players, and our sport. And all amateur sports of Canada .

CBHA New Penalty Standards
To All Member Leagues,
The BC Ball Hockey Association is encouraging all Member Leagues to adopt the CBHA New Penalty Standards for the upcoming 2008 season. The new standards are designed to open up the game and allow players and the game to advance in skill level. These standards are or have been implemented across the country already and will be enforced in 2008 at the BC Provincial Championships, Western Canadian Championships and the Canadian Sr. and Jr. National Championships. The BC Ball Hockey Association Executive feels it is in the best interest of all BCBHA Member Leagues on behalf of their teams to adopt these new standards and help the teams in their respective leagues prepare for these major tournaments and more importantly overall to improve the standard of play in the province.
The BCBHA will be including the New Penalty Standards in our 2008 Referee Clinics to properly train BC officials and ensure the utmost consistency in officiating throughout the province. If your league or Referee-In Chiefs have any questions regarding these standards please contact our Technical Director Steve Erickson for further clarification at technical@bcbha.com .
Sincerely,
Mike Schweighardt
President
